Proper auto glass tinting, etc.

Postby chad3006 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:52 pm

I've noticed the cars included with SD have nice glass; the outside is slightly tinted while from the driver's perspective (inside looking out) the glass seems perfectly clear.

Also, I've noticed that the cars I make have terrible glass; sometimes when it's tinted, the driver and other interior items become invisible or see-through when viewed from the outside. I've not been able to pin this down to any particular reason as my results seem random. Not to mention that from the driver's perspective, the view is tinted -- not clear. This is especially crappy when viewed from the "bonnet" position when one might have a half tinted/half clear view as the viewing position might be partly sticking through the windshield.

Any solutions?

If you want SD to display glass (all translucent areas actually) without sorting errors (the random holes through other areas), the polygons that should be translucent (currently) need to be made into a separate object (within the ac-file of course) with an name that starts with a prefix of "WI_".

On this site there is a more coherent explanation (you need to scroll down to the section on mesh conversion):

Thanks for that info W-E-C. That fixed my problems.

Also, I learned last night, quite by accident, that if you include your driver as a separate component/object and name it DRIVER in the .AC file, He'll disappear when your using the driver position in the car (F2) -- so you don't have to sit in his lap when you drive
