Re-work of Torcs Historic category

Postby Tom_D3 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:04 pm

Hello all,

This thread is for the rework of the Historic category from Torcs, making the cars suitable for Speed Dreams 2.1.
First car will be the Lancia Stratos (one of my favourite rally cars ever :D )

Hi tom here's a small vid' to get you into the stratos mood:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2OlsCu1tfc

Enjoy and turn your speakers to max ;)

And btw it could make a nice sound ref, unfortunately I'm a complete noob in sound manipulation so I'm not able to get anything out of it myself.

Lookin' forward to having more of these classics in SD, I love driving those :D

Anyway good luck.

J.J.

P.S.: Here's asecond one and onboard :D sound is bestial, the least we can say:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwZneulTEpo

I love the way the engine revs "vibrate" when he changes gears, it would be a nice feature for SD sounds too.

Hi J.J,

Thanks for the links; I can probably get a sound sample from the video, getting it work could be difficult, but i'll have a look.
Anyway, can you assign the texture to this please? There are a quite a few parts, sorry, but it makes it easier to texture. Sorry that I have to keep on asking you to do this, but I have no idea on how to do it from blender. If anybody knows a way, please let me know.

Thanks a lot

Tom :D

Hi tom, here are the files for the hi lance, I guess I had to apply only one texture this time as there was only one. If you don't have more than one texture, it is no problem if you have there are multiple objects as there is no possible confusion, troubles start at 2 tex ;) .

There is a way to make this without ac3d, but it isn't very sexy. All you need to do is to have notepad++ (or whatever similar that has a search function) and edit the file "by hand". It is pretty easy, if i take the hi lance file for example, here is how it starts:

Code: Select all
AC3Db
MATERIAL "stratosmat1" rgb 0.8 0.8 0.8  amb 1 1 1  emis 0 0 0  spec 0.5 0.5 0.5  shi 50  trans 0
OBJECT world
kids 23
OBJECT poly
name "DRIVER"
loc 0 -0.0278552 -2e-007
texture "hi-lance-atmos.png"
crease 45.000000
numvert 81

All you need to do is search for the OBJECT words inside the file, if it says "OBJECT poly" it means the following lines will describe one object (easy right :D ). To find the name of the object well look the line underneith which says... "name" to know which object your going to edit. And then all you need to do is add the line "texture "hi-lance-atmos.png" " under the "loc..." indication. Do that with every object (use the search for next instance function to find all objects) and you're done. This was the way I used in the past. The only thing is that you better do that in a copy of your .ac file.

I know it isn't the most sexy thing but still it gives you more freedom.

Have a good night.

J.J.

Not 100% happy with the sound, used a substitute one instead. I put the stratos sound at tickover in the hi-lance-atmos folder if anyone wants to edit it.

Next car here will be the Mercedes 300sl

Hope you like it,

Tom :D

Does anyone know how to set an interior view for a car? For the historical they are set from the bonnet.

Thanks :D

Some code in the XML file should fix it. Just play with the xyz numbers until you find what you want.
Example:
Code: Select all
  <section name="Driver">
    <!-- Position of the driver -->
    <attnum name="xpos" unit="m" val="-0.65"/>
    <attnum name="ypos" unit="m" val="0.0"/>
    <attnum name="zpos" unit="m" val="1.17"/>
  </section>
