Google Earth and Track Development

Postby chad3006 » Fri May 16, 2014 2:27 pm

I was playing around with Google Earth and discovered the elevation tool. You first make a path around the track then right click somewhere on the path and choose "Show Elevation Profile." So you can get at least a rough idea of the track's high and low spots. I don't know how accurate it is, but I compared it to a known track with published elevations and it compared favorably.

I am working on a track generator/editor for Speed Dreams. I have been using OpenStreetMap / MapQuest Open. It is still in the prototype stage but it will support elevation. (Thanks, Simon)
