Help customizing Speed Dreams

Postby weptun » Mon Jul 07, 2014 5:24 pm

Hey guys,

(not sure if the right channel/forum, sorry if I'm wrong)

we're a development shop (normally focused on ios/android apps) in Germany and would love to use speed dreams for a customer project we have. Any chance any of the devs would like to help us? Basically, we could pay you to develop a couple of interfaces into/away from speed dreams and maybe customize a maps and/or a car.

Just contact me via pn/webpage if you would be interested.

Customising car skins is trivial (its just a PNG).
Customising a track (ie. changing a banner/texture or two) is also relatively simple if you can use blender (or the like).
Building new tracks is supported, but it's quite a bit of work generating all the 'fancy' in-game scenery.

When you say 'interfaces', what do you mean?

Please remember if you are distributing code based on SpeedDreams, it needs to be under the GPL.

We need to to fire messages when certain driving events happen (brake/crash/etc) to another system/server. That's the main task, I believe.

I know of (and strongly support) the GPL constraint, and am happy to work with it.
However, our skillset in C++ is strongly limited (and obviously we don't know jack about Speed Dreams), hence I would love to support the existing devs with this - If any want to do this kind of freelance work.

Although I don't have the time resource to take this on myself, I'm happy to mentor/point people in the right direction to get this happening.

A 'Telemetry' link has been talked about in the past, and would be a good thing to have for lots of reasons. If it passes the simulator state for a 'registered' car you should be able to extract the XZY accelerations/etc.

The state of the car is store in this structure:
https://sourceforge.net/p/speed-dreams/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/src/interfaces/car.h#l505

I might be able to help with this. Can you share more detail? What is your timeline?
