Actually, Steam has greenlit iRacing as well, although its not clear how iRacing's subscription system would be integrated with Steam. Currently, iRacing Linux support uses Crossover/WINE so it is not very efficient.

Hmmmm.... iRacing via Steam.... interesting.

I've not tried either, mainly because of my lack of decent hardware and poor internet connection. There was some talk in this interview ( around 34:00) that iRacing are planning some modes other than the online racing (iRacing-lite?).

Steam will be great for them to put iRacing in-front of more eyes, I wonder if we (SpeedDreams) can get in on that action - we've got the start of SDL2 port in Trac and did some Desura packages for SpeedDreams 2.0.
Simon.

I wonder if this iRacing-lite would bring back Papyrus's AI, which some regard as the best sim racing AI ever made. I wish iRacing's test mode had AI to practice against. I'm finding iRacing to be extremely difficult: hundreds of times harder than Speed Dreams when I first tried it. At this point I can't even say whether I like it or not.

I've also tried rFactor with WINE and CrossOver. It installs and runs fine, but force feedback doesn't work at all, which surprised me since iRacing uses CrossOver. Like SD, rFactor is fun right out of the gate. Combined with how modable rFactor is, its not surprising that it is still very popular despite it's age.

I agree that there is an opportunity for SD now that sim racing is getting attention on Linux but I'm not sure that Steam is the best venue for a free software game.

So seems also "GRID Autosport" is confirmed to come to Linux since has been included in the "SteamOS"(linux) sale of steam.

Happy days for us Linux gamers!

iRacing is expensive, I'll admit, but since going to it after umming and ahhing for THREE YEARS, everything else feels awful to me. I'd definitely recommend it.

I've got some iRacing videos on my YouTube channel. www.youtube.com/user/Chazlington1992/

It's good enough to make you forget about everything else. I'll admit the only reason I'm still playing Speed Dreams is the customisation is beautiful - hence my upcoming GT3 Series that I'll be doing, and covering on YouTube and so on.

After playing iRacing, it becomes apparent that ...

GRID makes every car handle like a Formula 1 car.
Forza is under-steer city.
Need For Speed - no.
Test Drive is like driving while balancing an ostrich on your bonnet.

I haven't tried Project CARS or Assetto Corsa, but rFactor does it for me in terms of physics, and iRacing's community is second to none.

Chazlington92, there's a reason Madbad is excited. Driving games are a niche market. Linux gamers are a very tiny portion of the gaming market. So it is a big deal to Linux users when a company says they will support a driving game on Linux. We don't really worry about the realism since there are not many options available. The only reason I have iRacing is to reward their decision to support Linux. (Frankly, SD is more fun for me than iRacing which requires a lot more talent than I have.) By contrast, rFactor1 will run on Linux (in a limited way, see my previous post) but I won't buy it because ISI doesn't officially acknowlege the platform.

Madbad, GRID will only be available on Linux later this year, so don't get too excited until the developer actually delivers. I now strongly doubt that pCars will actually be available on Linux.
